a leader must also have faith in the people she is to lead
to see good in them and raise them to higher achievement
through praise not condemnation, encouragement not criticism

Rt Rev'd Martyn Snow, Bishop of Leicester

C of E Foundation

We have been delighted this year as a Diocese to partner nationally with the Church of England Foundation for Educational Leadership  - www.cefel.org.uk – in a range of Programmes and Networks. The Foundation runs a wide range of programmes for school leaders across the country and it’s great we can access  this in our Diocese. Enrolment is now open for 2018/19 for the following 2 exciting opportunities:

Peer Support Networks

These networks bring together school leaders to work on a range of school leadership priorities, and has grown quickly to have over 180 schools engaged nationally. For 2018/19, there are a number of new streams available including Leadership of Governance and Leadership of Rural/Small Schools; alongside Leadership of Teaching and Learning, Vision/Ethos, and Character Education. It’s a great opportunity for schools to develop their collaboration around particular leadership issues, connect with national developments, and also use as a CPD opportunity for senior/middle leaders as well as Headteachers. Please see www.cefel.org.uk/peernetworks to get involved for our Autumn 2018 launch. Schools who have been part of the network this year we hope to continue into 2018/19 as well.

CofE Professional Qualification for Headship

This is the Church of England’s flagship training programme for aspiring or current Headteachers, and based on 3 x 2 day residentials, alongside the extended school visit. The programme gives participants NPQH status on completion, and has had great feedback from the first cohorts. There are also some very helpful scholarship funding opportunities for particular areas – please see www.cefel.org.uk/cofepqh for more details and to apply – the course starts in Spring 2019.
